“The next decade is crucial for the HGV sector in achieving Paris-aligned decarbonisation targets. However, a handful of huge multinational companies dominate the global trucking industry, and their progress isn’t keeping pace. I am building a strategy for legal interventions to challenge industry and expose wrongdoing in order to shift responsibility of affordability to these big multinationals and make battery electric technology the leading solution.”
Heavy goods vehicles, climate law, strategic litigation, commercial dispute resolution (corporate governance, media, advertising, consumer law)
As Legal Director at Opportunity Green, Matilda’s research covers regulations around heavy goods vehicles in the EU and UK, their contribution to the climate crisis, and challenges to decarbonising the sector. She also identifies how the law can be used to drive corporate accountability.
A qualified solicitor, Matilda has experience in dispute resolution at a B-Corp law firm, where she advised on greenwashing and strategic litigation claims, as well as a broad range of charity and commercial disputes. She has worked for several climate and environmental NGOs in roles covering legal research, management, community engagement, fundraising and strategy and was a contributing author for The Palgrave Handbook of Environmental Policy and Law.
Matilda also co-founded Legal Voices for the Future – a collaborative learning forum established and run by early-career practitioners to build expertise in the climate and ecological crises.
