“A major milestone for me has been researching and co-writing Opportunity Green’s first full Irish-focused report Closing Ireland’s Aviation Climate Gap, and writing an opinion piece on this for the Irish Mail on Sunday. The report laid out data-driven analysis and policy recommendations for decarbonising Ireland’s aviation sector. This work provided a strong foundation for our advocacy, and helped shape public and stakeholder understanding. It’s also been exciting to onboard our first few Irish members to the SASHA Coalition, and I’m keen to deepen our work with them and grow our membership further in future.”
Aviation decarbonisation, Irish and EU climate policy and advocacy strategy.
Sorcha brings significant experience in advocacy for human rights and climate action in Ireland, with previous senior positions at Friends of the Earth Ireland, the Irish Coalition for Business and Human Rights, and Amnesty International. In these roles, Sorcha delivered strategic advocacy initiatives that influenced national and European policies on corporate accountability, human rights and climate action.
As our first member of staff in Ireland, Sorcha leads Opportunity Green’s policy, advocacy, and engagement work in Ireland. Her work encourages national policymakers and Irish MEPs to increase climate ambition, particularly in relation to the international aviation sector. She builds strong relationships with policymakers, advisors, and Irish MEPs, positioning OG as a go-to source for evidence-based insight on sustainable aviation and shipping.
She also works closely with the SASHA Coalition team to identify and recruit Irish members and to build the coalition’s presence in Ireland.
Alongside her role at OG, Sorcha is also currently undertaking a MSc in Climate and Environmental Law at Sutherland School of Law, University College of Dublin.
