Tom Grylls (he/him)

Director of Analytics

With Opportunity Green since: July 2026

“I’m interested in the space between good research and good decision-making – making evidence that’s rigorous but also genuinely compelling and valuable to the people who need to act on it. That’s what excites me about Opportunity Green’s approach to climate mitigation: research sitting alongside bold advocacy, diplomacy and strategic litigation, held together by real transparency and accountability.”

Specialist areas:

Air pollution, short-lived climate pollutants, super pollutants, climate science, atmospheric science, science communications, air quality finance, multilateralism (climate and air quality frameworks)

About Tom:

Tom combines a PhD in urban climates modelling with experience in leading large philanthropic programmes on air pollution and climate mitigation. At the Clean Air Fund, Tom previously led a multimillion programme advancing action on climate super pollutants. His work spanned a broad portfolio, covering science, advocacy and finance, as well as sectors including transport, buildings and forest fires. He also led the Clean Air Fund’s global data portfolio, focusing on improving the accessibility and actionability of air quality data globally.

Tom‘s academic career focused on how urban design affects the people living in cities. This included studying the role of urban trees, personal exposure to air pollution, and how atmospheric chemistry plays out within a street or a neighbourhood. This focus on atmospheric chemistry has underpinned his more recent work on super pollutants such as black carbon and tropospheric ozone.

At Opportunity Green, Tom leads the Analytics team, focusing on generating scientific and economic evidence to close gaps in global climate action. He works closely with our legal, advocacy and diplomacy teams to hold government and polluters accountable across sectors including shipping, aviation, trucks, steel and agriculture.
