With Opportunity Green since: September 2023
“One of the big highlights of my time at Opportunity Green was being quoted in Forward Law Review, critiquing the UK’s ICJ climate advisory opinion oral pleading, which attempted to water down international climate obligations. It felt like a moment where I was holding my own country accountable (to a small degree!) for its shameful climate inaction.”
Aviation law, UK and EU greenwashing frameworks, public international law, human rights law
Olivia develops and executes strategic legal interventions in the aviation sector and public international law. Her aim is to compel companies and countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Among Olivia’s standout moments with us are her contribution to the growth of our international law workstream, and publishing her first report (with Sophie Prinz) on the legal risks of using the term “sustainable aviation fuel”. The report has begun to change the way problematic fuels are viewed and is likely to be the basis of future legal action. Olivia has been featured in Forward Law Review and Sustainable Views.
Prior to joining Opportunity Green, Olivia was a research assistant for Global Canopy, where she assessed the deforestation and human rights policies of the top 500 companies and financial institutions with the largest influence on tropical deforestation. She has a Bachelor’s in Law, an LLM in Human Rights Law and is a fellow of Charityworks. While studying, she carried out research into the UN’s reporting on indigenous peoples’ right to a healthy environment and supported the UN universal periodic review of human rights in the UK.
