Welcome to our new Treasurer

Our board of trustees is growing, and we’re delighted to announce that we have a new Treasurer, Faresi Farisai Nyaoda. Faresi tells us how she plans to bring her wealth of financial skills and knowledge to the board to help us achieve our goals through effective financial management practices.

Tell us a bit about your background

I am a governance professional with an MBA in Financial Services from the University of Zimbabwe. I have spent most of my career in the corporate sector, with more than 20 years of experience working in diverse financial accounting and internal auditing roles, gaining extensive insight into financial management.

My key competencies include managing budgets, performing risk assessments, conducting business strategy reviews, internal control and auditing. Since 2010, I have enjoyed working exclusively for charity and not-for-profit organisations.

What inspires and motivates you the most?

My desire to see a standard of excellence executed in financial management and my desire to make a positive impact on society.

My work reflects my passion for financial management and my desire to make a positive impact on society with a vision and dexterity that drive economic and social positive change, with the wisdom to form solid synergetic relationships with all stakeholders.

What attracted you to become a Trustee for us?

My interest in sustainability and environmental issues. It is my responsibility to play my part in reducing my carbon footprint and to be that change.

Opportunity Green, seeks bold and impactful climate solutions, focusing on equity, justice and accountability; working to unlock opportunities, confronting climate change and supporting climate vulnerable countries using innovative legal pathways.

This is important to me, having worked for fossil fuel organisations in the past and coming from a vulnerable continent, Africa. I would love to make a meaningful contribution to this cause using my skillset to help the organisation achieve its aims and objectives.

What will you be bringing to the role?

As the Treasurer, I will be responsible for overseeing the financial management of the organisation and ensuring that its resources are used effectively to achieve its goals. I will bring extensive experience in financial management to the role, as well as my passion for making a positive impact on society.

I will also be ensuring that the organisation’s governance structure is effective and efficient, by developing policies and procedures that align with the organisation’s mission and values.

What do you hope to achieve as our Trustee?

I hope to help Opportunity Green achieve its mission of promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility by ensuring that its finances are managed effectively, ethically and transparently. I will work closely with other members of the board to develop strategies for achieving the organisation's goals and ensuring its long-term viability.
