Our work
Climate Diplomacy
Our goals
We want international shipping emissions to reduce in line with a 1.5°C pathway to zero by 2050, with emissions reductions beginning immediately. A just and equitable transition is at the heart of this mission. Our work supports a truly global decarbonisation that leaves no country behind.
What are we doing to make this happen?
We provide research, consultation and facilitation services related to shipping decarbonisation and activities at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). In particular, we work with climate vulnerable Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to ensure that all countries can contribute to the IMO's emissions agenda.
If you work for a London-based embassy and would like our assistance with increasing your country's capacity to take part in the climate negotiations at the IMO, please get in touch with our Senior International Shipping Policy Manager, Ana Laranjeira.
Our tailored support may include information briefings ahead of the IMO meetings, ad-hoc legal and policy advice to your country and networking opportunities.
Why do our partners trust us?
Our team has significant experience in the law and policy required to make change at the IMO.
Our Senior International Shipping Policy Manager, Ana Laranjeira, tells us more:
‘Since joining Opportunity Green in June 2022, I have focused on building relationships with progressive climate vulnerable nations, with the aim of strengthening their presence at the IMO climate discussions.
“My professional background in international negotiations on maritime emissions, climate diplomacy, and just transition policy, allows me to provide high level policy analysis and technical assistance to countries and organisations. As our team grows, I’m excited to develop more strategies that will contribute to a just and equitable transition in international shipping.’
